On June 15, at approximately 10:00 PM, a resident of Meadowbrook Road reported that
they heard a loud noise in their garage. When they went to investigate, they observed
smoke and flames and called 911. The Wyckoff Police along with the Wyckoff Fire
Department responded to the scene. The fire was contained to the garage and was
extinguished by the fire department. Fire damage was limited to the garage, however, the
adjoining house suffered smoke and heat damage. The Wykoff Fire Official determined
the cause of the fire to be an electric scooter with a lithium-ion battery that was plugged in
and charging.
The Wyckoff Police Department would like to remind everyone of the dangers associated
with lithium-ion batteries. Please see the link below from National Fire Protection
Association.

The Wyckoff Police Department would like to point out that the above individuals have been
charged with a crime, offense, and or motor vehicle violations. However, they are presumed
innocent unless and until they are found guilty in a court of law.
We cannot stress enough the value of our residents remaining alert in their neighborhoods
and reporting anything unusual or suspicious to the police, “Hear It! See It!, Report It!”
We encourage all residents to report ANY suspicious persons, vehicles, or activity occurring at
any time to the Wyckoff Police – County Communications Center at 201-891-2121 or 911 in
the event of an emergency.
