On June 12, 2022 at 7:02 P.M., a resident of the 800 block of 3rd Street called the Secaucus Police Department and reported that an individual burglarized his parked vehicle and attempted to burglarize another one of his vehicles. A short time later, another resident of the 800 block of 3rd Street reported that her vehicle was also burglarized and the individual also attempted to burglarize two other vehicles of hers. Additionally, a resident of the 700 block of 3rd Street reported that someone attempted to burglarize his vehicle. It was reported that nothing was taken from any of vehicles that were entered, but it should be noted that both entered were left unlocked.
Based on the evidence gathered from the victims, it is believed that the same person is responsible for burglarizing two vehicles and attempting to burglarize four others. All of these crimes occurred earlier that morning at approximately 2:00 A.M. Patrol Division officers worked collaboratively with the Detective Division and arrested Joshua Muniz at the Rodeway Inn Motel on Route 3 East at 11:56 P.M. on June 12.
“I am proud of my officers’ and detectives’ diligent work in making an arrest within hours of the initial report,” Chief Dennis Miller said. “Additionally, I cannot stress enough that residents need to lock their car doors to curtail this crime of opportunity!”
Joshua Muniz, 28, of Secaucus was charged with two counts of Burglary [2C:18-2a(1)] and four counts of Criminal Attempt to Commit Burglary [2C:5-1/2C:18-2a(1)]. Joshua Muniz, was lodged in the Hudson County Jail.
