Multi-Agency Investigation Leads to Two Arrests and Seizure of Methamphetamine and GHB

In March of 2022 the Secaucus Police Department’s Anti-Crime Unit opened a joint investigation with Detectives from the West New York Police Anti-Crime Unit and North Bergen Police Department, in regards to methamphetamine being sold at hotels within Secaucus.

On April 23, 2022, Richard Rivera, 36, of North Bergen, was placed under arrest by members of the Secaucus Police Department’s Anti-Crime Unit and North Bergen Police Department at the Fountain Motel in North Bergen on an active warrant issued by the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office for Receiving Stolen Property with no bail and a warrant issued by Hoboken with a bail amount of $5,000.00/10%. At the time of his arrest, Richard Rivera was charged with possessing over seven ounces of suspected methamphetamine. He also possessed a quantity of suspected Gamma Hydroxybutyrate (GHB) and drug paraphernalia at the time of his arrest.

On June 1, 2022, Detectives from the Secaucus Police Department’s Anti-Crime Unit and North Bergen Police Department conducted a search of the residence of Christopher Healey, 45, located on the 1100 block of 53rd Street in North Bergen. During the search, Detectives seized over eight ounces of suspected methamphetamine, over twenty ounces of suspected Gamma Hydroxybutyrate (GHB) along with quantities of suspected cocaine, Xanax, Adderall, Percocet, Viagra, Clonazapm, Ecstasy, Psilocybin Mushrooms, Oxycodone, and approximately three pounds of Marijuana. Several hundred dollars in cash believed to derived from nefarious acts was also seized. A stun gun along with other items indicative of the production of methamphetamine were also seized.

“Vice activity will not be tolerated at our local hotels and the Secaucus Police Department will continue to work with our law enforcement counterparts to eradicate criminals who come to Secaucus solely to conduct their illicit activities,” Chief Dennis Miller said. “I want to praise the diligent and collaborative investigative efforts of the Detectives who participated in this investigation, especially my Anti-Crime Unit, under the tutelage of Detective Sergeant Matthew Ford. I also want to thank the North Bergen and West New York Police Departments for their collaboration during this investigation.”

“Drug activity and other criminal behavior at our local motels not only negatively impacts the people who stay there, but it also affects the quality of life of our community. We are committed to working with our law enforcement partners to interdict this type of activity and I am proud of the interagency cooperation which led to these arrests,” North Bergen Police Chief Peter Fasilis said.

“Our department is fully engaged with our law enforcement partners throughout the county and will continue to work diligently with all levels of law enforcement to suppress criminal activity. I commend the Secaucus Police Department on this investigation and the West New York Anti-Crime Unit for their participation,” West New York Deputy Chief Alejandro DeRojas said.

Richard Rivera was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine [2C:35-5b(8)], Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine [2C:35-5b(9)a], Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a School [2C:35-7], two counts of Possession of Methamphetamine [2C:35-10a(1)], Possession of GHB [2C:35-10.2] and two counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia with the Intent to Distribute [2C:36-3]. Rivera remains in the Hudson County Jail.

Christopher Healey was charged with Maintaining a CDS Production Facility [2C:35-4], Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine [2C:35-5b(8)], Possession with Intent to Distribute GHB [2C:35-5.2], Possession with Intent to Distribute Psilocybin Mushroom [2C:35-5b(4)], Possession with Intent to Distribute Xanax [2C:35-5b(13)], Possession with Intent to Distribute Adderall [2C:35-5b(4)], Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine [2C:35-5b(3)], Possession with Intent to Distribute Viagra [2C:35-10.5a(3)], Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana [2C:35-5b(11)b], Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance within 1,000 feet of a School [2C:35-7], Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance within 500 feet of a Park [2C:35-7.1], Possession of GHB [2C:35-10.2], Possession of Marijuana [2C:35-10a(3)(b)], Possession of Bupropion [2C:35-10.5e(2)], twelve counts of Possession of CDS [2C:35-10a(1)], Possession of a Weapon while Committing a CDS Offense [2C:39-4.1c], Possession of Drug Paraphernalia with the Intent to Distribute [2C:36-3] and Money Laundering [2C:21-25]. Christopher Healey was lodged in the Hudson County Jail.
