The latest COVID-19 statistics in Secaucus seem to suggest that the town has finally turned the tide in slowing down the spread of the coronavirus. Although there were sadly two new cases of coronavirus-related deaths again, the number of new cases has fallen drastically compared to the last few months. See the details in the graph below. Over the last two weeks, the total number of COVID-19 cases grew from 2,870 cases to 2,879 cases. This averages to 4.5 cases per week, which is a tremendous plunge from the previous average of 90 cases per week. This means that the infection rate fell by a staggering 90% over the course of the last two weeks. This is a great sign since the infection rate had been consistently high during the last few months. As can be seen in the graph above, this latest statistic has finally begun to noticeably flatten the curve, similar to the way the curve looked back in October of 2020.
Currently, all residents of New Jersey over the age of 16 are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. And as of earlier this week, approximately 37% of the state's 6.9 million adult residents have been vaccinated so far. So vaccination efforts seem to be proceeding at a good pace. Therefore, unless there is a surge in variants of the virus which are immune to the vaccine, we will hopefully continue to see the infection rate decrease moving forward.
