04/09 Update on Secaucus' Coronavirus Statistics

Posted Fri, Apr 9, 2021, By Staff Writer
Last week, we reported that New Jersey currently has one of the highest COVID-19 infection rates in the country. Unfortunately, that is still the case. Within Secaucus specifically, the infection rate remains steady as the current number of new cases matches the overall average from recent weeks. The death toll, however, continues to climb with another coronavirus-related death being reported this week. The latest coronavirus statistics can be seen in the graph below. During the past seven days, the total number of COVID-19 cases grew from 2,780 cases to 2,870 cases, a growth of 90 new cases. This is perfectly in line with the current average of 90 new cases per week, so this means that the infection rate has neither increased or decreased since last week. While this is not necessarily a bad sign, it is a little disconcerting considering that the infection rate is currently at one of its highest levels in Secaucus. This is especially a concern for many parents since a number of kids will be returning to school for in-person learning next week now that spring break is over.

Theoretically, the infection rate should be dropping right now as more and more Secaucus residents qualify to get the vaccine. Hopefully, the statistics will reflect this soon as these vaccinations take effect in the next few weeks.
