On January 3, 2021, the Secaucus Police responded to the intersection of Paterson Plank Road and County Avenue on a report of a motor vehicle crash where one of the involved vehicles fled the scene. The crash resulted in minor injuries to the driver of the other vehicle.
Moments later, Secaucus Police were called to the 800 block of 8th Street on a report of another motor vehicle crash into a fence and pole where the vehicle fled the scene. Vehicle parts left at both crash scenes and witness statements revealed it to be from the same vehicle.
Secaucus Police Traffic Bureau Officers, under the leadership of Lieutenant Martin Moreda, conducted an accident investigation of both collisions and determined the same vehicle to be involved. Within 48 hours, they identified the vehicle and owner.
On January 5, 2021, 24-year-old Amanda Hernandez of Jersey City, NJ was apprehended and charged with Assault by Auto [2C:12-1(c)], Hindering Apprehension [2C:29-3b(1)], Reckless Driving [39:4-96], Leaving the Scene of an Accident [39:4-129(b)], Driving with a Suspended License [39:3-40]. The Secaucus Police Department would like to thank the members of the Jersey City Police Department and the Human Services Police Department for their assistance.
