During this past week, the total number of COVID-19 cases increased from 1466 cases to 1533 cases. That's an increase of 67 cases, which is almost the same number of new cases as last week. (Last week saw an increase of 66 new cases.) So the current infection rate in Secaucus is practically the same as last week's. Although it would obviously be better if the infection rate was decreasing, the spread of the virus is currently much slower when compared to two weeks ago. Therefore, things could be much worse. On the down side, though, there were two new cases of coronavirus-related deaths this week, bringing the total number of Secaucus deaths to 55. While this is statistically not surprising given the spike of new cases in the last few weeks, it is still a grim reminder of how Secaucus has been impacted by this illness. At least the mayor and town council just announced that the distribution of the coronavirus vaccine in Secaucus is already being planned for when the vaccine becomes available. So Secaucus residents can rest assured that local officials seem to be on top of the situation.
