There is some good news for a change this week. Although it is still extremely high, Secaucus' COVID-19 infection rate actually fell this week. On the downside, though, we saw the first case of coronavirus related death in over three months. See the details in the graph below. Over the course of the past seven days, the number of COVID-19 cases grew from 1117 to 1217. This means that the infection rate actually fell by 10.7% this week compared to last week which had 112 new cases. Even lthough this is an encouraging sign, it is far too early to conclude that this second wave of the coronavirus has passed its peak. After all, the state wide statistics are still on an uptrend with a record number of cases reported just this past week. In addition, Secaucus saw two cases of coronavirus related deaths this week. There have been no newly reported deaths since the week of August 17th, and that is arguable more important than the number of new cases. According to health officials, we should see the fallout (if any) from people travelling for Thanksgiving in the next one to two weeks due to the virus' incubation period. Hopefully, this won't translate to an increasing infection rate for Secaucus again. In the meantime, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy just instituted further restrictions on school sporting events.
