SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Environmental Coordinator provide a broad range of administrative clerical support. Perform a variety of routine functions including assist and maintain the various environmental initiatives.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assist Environmental Coordinator with administrative needs.
- Green Restaurant Certification Program – survey and make sure restaurants have stickers; work on promoting their participation.
- Cleanups – Town Earth Day Cleanup; Corporate Cleanups; weekly mini-cleanups in summer with volunteers; apply for mini-grants from HCIA.
- Battery Recycling (Big Green Box) check periodically on boxes in nine (9) locations; wrap batteries and return via FedEx pickup.
- Plastic Bag Recycling Program – pick up twice a week from four (4) locations.
- Phone Recycling Program – Firefly/April (april@fireflyitrecovery.com); receive check for used phones returned including from IT Department.
- Printer Cartridge Recycling – return printer cartridges to Staples to get a coupon for each sent via email to Sandra D’Arzen in Purchasing Department (use the Staples Rewards card).
- Green Festival – organize and assist the annual running of Festival group. Maintain and make updates on contact information on group emailing and a GF Excel spreadsheet for
general info.
- Arbor Day Tree Appreciation Campaign – generally held every other year
- Community Gardens – keep track of maintenance needs for four (4) locations; Fountain Park (24), Xchange (51), Mill Ridge Road (14), and Maple Street (11); maintain and update
as needed group email lists for each garden.
- Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Program – coordinate with current farmer, Genesis Farm (or whomever farmer may be). Products are dropped off at the Recreation Center
every other Wednesday from mid-June through mid-Nov; follow up to make sure people have picked up bags. Contact shareholder if they haven’t or distribute to food pantry (office or DPW).
- Honey Sales – Coordinate with beekeeper, print and label bottles and promote sales
- Summer Speaker Series – Every Wednesday night in July from 7:00 – 8:00; organize programs and speakers and coordinate with various Town Departments.
- Environmental Camp – Generally held the last four days of August. Assist with scheduling and organizing 4-day trips, including payment, busses, snacks, and water.
- Show Us Your Garden – responsible for posting on website in Spring and Summer pictures residents send in of their gardens.
- Responsible for the maintenance of various parks: Butterfly Garden, Radio Avenue; Liberty and Fountain Park, High School Plots; wildflower meadow at Shell Station.
- Clean Communities Coordinator – in charge of litter-abatement and corporate clean ups around town.
- Recycling and Plastic Bag Ban Ordinance enforcement.
- Tree City, USA Certification.
- Organize and host an Arbor Day event and tree fundraising program.

- High School diploma required; some college a plus.
- Excellent oral and written and communication skills.

- Strong organization skills, accuracy to details.
- Strong aptitude for complying and preparing reports.
- Knowledge and understanding of government operation.
- Experience in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Access and other databases.
- Must be able to disseminate information relating to Town operations in a clear, concise and consistent manner.
