New Jersey Declares State of Emergency

We reported on the first case of the Coronavirus in New Jersey that was announced on March 4, 2020. A mere 6 days later, that total has now grown to 11 at the time of this writing. With the rapid spread of the disease, Governor Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency for New Jersey last night in an effort to contain the spread of the virus.

On Monday, March 9, five new cases of the disease in New Jersey were announced from that one day alone. So it is no surprise that the governor was quick to jump into action. Currently, there are 14 additional tests in progress and 24 others under investigation. So it is likely that that number of 11 will continue. Luckily, there are still no reported cases of the virus in Secaucus yet. However, with a large percentage of Secaucus residents being regular commuters to the dense borough of Manhattan, it would not be surprising if it does eventually reach Secaucus. (New York City currently has 36 confirmed cases.)

Berkeley Heights - 48 year old, currently hospitalized at Overlook Medical Center in Summit
Little SIlver - 27 year old man, currently not hospitalized
Hazlet - 83 year old woman, currently hospitalized at Hackensack Meridian’s Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel
Teaneck - 30 year old, currently hospitalized at Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck
Announced on March 8, 2020
Teaneck - 70-year-old man, currently hospitalized at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Paterson
West New York - 32-year-old man, currently hospitalized at Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack
Announced on March 6, 2020
Englewood - A 55-year-old man, currently hospitalized at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center
Cherry Hill - 61 year old man, currently hospitalized at Jefferson Cherry Hill Hospital in Camden county

Englewood - woman in her 30s, treated at Englewood Health Hospital in Bergen county, currently not hospitalized
