Juvenile Possessed Handgun While Operating Stolen Vehicle

The Secaucus Police Department recently issued the following press release regarding this incident.

On Monday December 24, 2018, at approximately 7:53 PM, Secaucus Police received a report of a black Jeep Cherokee with a New York registration driving erratically in the area of the Shell Gas Station, 300 Route 3 East.

Police Officers responding to the area located a vehicle that fit the description on the 800 block of Sixth Street. As officers approached the vehicle, a 15 year old male of Bronx, New York emerged from the driver’s seat and attempted to walk away. However, he was immediately stopped and questioned.

During the investigation, it became known that the vehicle was confirmed to be stolen out of New York. The 15 year old male was subsequently placed under arrest and found in possession of a quantity of marijuana and the key fob to the stolen vehicle. During his arrest, the 15 year old male indicated “some bullets” may be within the vehicle. During a search of the stolen vehicle, officers recovered .32 caliber and 9mm bullets along with a .32 caliber Smith and Wesson revolver.

On December 26, 2018, a a loaded 9mm handgun was found near the scene of the 15 year old male's arrest on Sixth Street. An investigation is ongoing to determine who discarded that handgun.

The 15 year old male, was charged with Receiving Stolen Property [2C:20-7], Unlawful Possession of a Handgun [2C:39-5b], Unlawful Possession of Handgun Ammunition [2C:58-3.3], Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Minor [2C:58-6.1], Possession of Marijuana [2C:35-10a(4)] and being an Unlicensed Driver [39:3-10]. He was remanded to the Union County Youth House.
