News Update from the Mayor

Hello. This is Mayor Mark Zinna with a Friday news update.

This evening, Friday, March 7 at 7 pm at the Presbyterian Church, the Highwood Ensemble, wind and piano quintet, will be playing an eclectic mix of classic, romantic, jazz, and contemporary music. This is a benefit concert to help those affected by the Los Angeles wildfires. Free admission, donations welcome at the door.

This Saturday and Sunday the Nature Center is holding a seasonal scavenger hunt, where families with children ages 4 and up will receive a printed set of clues to independently solve nature riddles along Nature Center trails. Each family will need to work as a team as they hike along the trails to complete the hunt.

On Sunday at 9:30 am TNC race director and running coach Phil Germakian will provide a free trail-running workshop designed to prepare interested runners for TNC’s 5k or 10k Lost Brook Trail Run. He will cover trail-running basics and lead a guided run on the Lost Brook Trail Run course.

There are only two more Sundays at the Nature Center to enjoy Maple Sugaring where guests can learn how to identify a maple tree and discover the history of syrup making as they are led through the process. Register for these and more at tenaflynaturecenter.org

The Rubach Family Purim Carnival is this Sunday, March 9, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the JCC Costumes, rides, games, delicious treats, and non-stop family fun! For tickets visit: www.jccotp.org

The Tenafly Library Friends are pleased to present as their next movie in the Tuesday Afternoon Movie series, A Real Pain. Screening is Tuesday, March 11 at 1 pm in the Friends room at the library. This award winning movie tells the story of mismatched cousins who tour Poland to honor their grandmother. Kieran Culkin recently won the academy award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for this picture. Should be a good one!

Join us at the Senior Center on Wednesday, March 12, at 6:30 pm for an insightful presentation titled "Navigating Change: Proactive Care for an Aging Loved One." Dr. Ritu Suri, a Board Certified Primary Care Practitioner, along with David Stamberg from Senior Care Authority, will discuss the challenges faced by adult children caring for their aging parents. ACEing Autism returns this spring to the JCC for families with autism and volunteers alike. It is a wonderful way for high school teen volunteers to give back and engage in activity while providing hands-on basic skills, structure, socialization and most importantly, fun for participants.
