On Monday, January 27, 2025, a Hudson County jury convicted a 37-year-old man for his role in his mother’s 2021 death in West New York.
Emmanuel Gonzalez, of West New York, was found guilty of Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a, a crime of the first degree. The verdict was delivered before the Honorable Angelo Servidio, J.S.C.
On Thursday January 14, 2021, at approximately 1:30 p.m., members of the West New York Police Department responded to 439 66th Street on a report of an unresponsive female. Upon arrival, officers were met by Emmanuel Gonzalez, who is the son of the victim. Officers were directed to a bedroom where the female, later identified as Irma Gonzalez, 62, of West New York, was found unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of Death to be Blunt Force Trauma and Manner to be Homicide.
The State was represented at trial by Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Nicole Ghezzar. Sentencing is tentatively scheduled for Friday, April 11, 2025.
