7/21/2023 1:45 PM, (Unwanted Party)
Patrol was summoned to a West Passaic Street hotel for (2) unwanted parties. In
the course of a fire alarm, while the hotel was evacuated, 2 tenants engaged in a
dispute. Management requested both parties vacate the hotel, and patrol officers
negotiated this exit.
7/21/2023 4:37 PM, (Arrest - Adult)
On 7/19 a vehicle was captured on surveillance cameras causing damage to
fixtures at Matthew's Field. A vehicle drove over the curb, struck electrical
equipment and a utility pole, and drove off haphazardly. Detectives acquired a
license plate and were able to identify the driver. The driver, a 34-year-old male
from Paterson, was arrested on 7/21. The arrestee was charged with 3rd degree
criminal mischief and released pending a future court date.
7/21/2023 8:18 PM, (DWI - Arrest)
While clearing from a dispute call at a local supermarket, officers were notified of
a motor vehicle accident in the area. The driver of a Ford Expedition struck a
parked vehicle in the supermarket parking lot. Officers located the driver, a 46-
year-old male from River Vale, and requested he exit his vehicle. The driver had
trouble keeping his balance, failed sobriety tests, and was arrested. The arrestee
registered a .13% BAC, was charged, and released to a family member.
7/22/2023 11:22 AM, (Identity Theft)
A 30-year-old resident of the Township reported travelling to Colombia in July.
He met a female, went to dinner, and took a taxi back to his AirBnB. The
complainant reported waking up 2 days later with no memory beyond the taxi
ride. Upon waking after 2 days, he discovered his watch, necklace, $1,000, a
Macbook, and credit cards, all missing. Adding insult to injury, after returning to
the U.S., he discovered multiple Zelle transfers from his bank account. A
subsequent hospital visit revealed possible sedatives in his system. Officers took
a report; however, the complainant was advised that the crimes took place outside
of our jurisdiction.
7/22/2023 9:48 PM, (Arrest - Adult(s))
A motor vehicle stop was conducted on Route 17. The driver, a 21-year-old male
from New Britain, Ct., was in possession of a fraudulent Rhode Island driver's
license. The driver additionally had an active protection order against a female.
The female passenger was the suspected victim of the protection order. The
female, a 21-year-old from Lodi, provided a false name. Her true identity
revealed the driver was actively violating a protection order. The female was
arrested for obstruction. The male was arrested for possessing false government
documents, contempt of court, and resisting arrest. Once handcuffed the male
arrestee moved the cuffs from the rear to front, took off his seatbelt, and refused
to be secured in the police vehicle. Eventually both parties were secured,
charged, and released.
7/23/2023 8:57 PM, (Fraud)
A resident of Peek Street reported listing a mattress on Facebook Marketplace. A
potential buyer agreed to pay $800 for a $500 sale, and then requested $300 be
sent back via Venmo. Anytime a buyer offers to send more than the asking
price, this signals a SCAM. A report was taken and forwarded to the Venmo
fraud department.
7/24/2023 12:49 AM, (DWI -Arrest)
A patrol officer observed a vehicle enter a hotel parking lot, observe his presence,
never exit the vehicle, and then begin to drive off. Finding this behavior
suspicious, a motor vehicle stop ensued. The driver, a 26-year-old male from
Bridgeton, was found to be in possession of prescription medication not
prescribed to him. The male was charged with DWI and narcotic possession. He
was released to a family member.
7/24/2023 10:42 PM, (Theft by Deception)
An employee of a Rochelle Avenue pharmacy reported being the victim of a
slight of hand scam. Two days earlier, a male described as middle eastern with
black hair, a bald spot, a black beard, and aged in his 30's, purchased $4,000
worth of gift cards. The juvenile employee then reported only $2,800 in cash was
provided. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage.
7/25/2023 12:54 AM, (DWI - Arrest)
Officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Route 17 South.
Responding officers located a heavily damaged tractor trailer, a Range Rover, and
a utility pole split in half. All parties refused medical attention. PSE&G, the
DOT, and a duty tow were requested. The driver of the Range Rover, a 48-yearold female from Franklin Lakes, was placed under arrest for suspicion of DWI.
The arrestee refused to perform field sobriety tests and also refused to submit
samples of her breath. She was issued several summonses including DWI and
refusal to submit breath samples.
7/25/2023 8:45 AM, (Burglary to Auto)
Two motor vehicles parked in a West Passaic Street apartment complex were
entered and ransacked. Each vehicle was left unlocked, and the owners were
unsure what was stolen. A third vehicle from Cedar Drive was also reported to be
burglarized. This report was not made until 7/31. Detectives were assigned and
will monitor parking lot surveillance cameras.
7/26/2023 6:25 AM, (DWI - Arrest)
Patrol Officers located a vehicle idling in the middle of the roadway on West End.
The driver appeared to be unconscious. After awakening the driver, a 27-year-old
male from Garfield, he stated he was coming from lunch. It should be noted that
it was 6:30 AM at the time, a few hours off from common lunch time. The driver
subsequently failed field sobriety tests and was arrested on suspicion of drunk
driving.
7/27/2023 6:59 PM (Commitment)
A caller reported a fight at an Essex Street convenience store. Responding patrol
located an intoxicated, barefoot male, lying on Essex Street. The other parties left
the area prior to police arrival. The shoeless male, a 31-year-old from Cresskill,
was committed to a local hospital due to severe intoxication levels.
7/28/2023 4:26 PM (Involuntary Commitment)
Patrol was summoned to a West Passaic Street business for a 35-year-old female
acting violently towards staff members. The female reported voices telling her to
be violent. EMS was promptly summoned and the patient was transported to a
medical facility for an evaluation.
7/30/2023 8:50 PM (Commitment)
The week of uncontrollable intoxication continued with a report of a party passed
out on the floor of a NJ Transit bus. Patrol located a 58-year-old male from
Hackensack, comfortably resting on the floor of the bus. The male was
accompanied by a bottle of Fireball. EMS transported the male to a local hospital.
7/31/2023 2:50 PM (Unwanted Party)
A West Passaic Street coffee shop reported an intoxicated party refusing to leave.
Patrol located a 58-year-old male from Garfield, behind a different business. The
male possessed a cup, no not coffee, a cup of beer. He was surprisingly deemed
to not be intoxicated, however, he was advised of the penalties for public alcohol
consumption, and sent on his way.
8/1/2023 2:36 PM (Arrest -Adult(s))
A motor vehicle stop on East Passaic Street led to the arrest of (4) individuals.
The vehicle occupants were in possession of several stolen identities, and
hundreds of stolen checks. The investigation is ongoing.
8/3/2023 12:16 PM (Arrest -Adult)
An Essex Street jewelry store reported a possible fraud in progress. The party in
questions tried to utilize a declined credit card. Patrol Officers located the male, a
47-year-old from Hackensack, found the card to be legitimate, however, he
possessed several stolen items. The male was arrested and charged with receiving
stolen property.
8/3/2023 4:18 PM (Shoplifting)
A Rochelle Avenue pharmacy reported a shoplifting in progress. The actors left
prior to police arrival, however, surveillance cameras captured a male and female
actor fill a pink bag with cosmetics. Detectives were assigned.
In addition, (15) suspicious persons/vehicles were vetted and (80) motor vehicle
stops were conducted in a 14-day span.
A charge is not a conviction. All persons are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Charges can be amended or dismissed.
