Patrol Officers witnessed a female party soliciting in the area of Rt. 17 and Essex
Street. The female, age 19 of Ozone Park, NY, provided a false name and D.O.B.
to officers. She was arrested, charged with obstruction, soliciting without a
permit, and released.
8/4/2023 5:13 PM, (Suspicious Incident)
A female resident reported being followed into the Municipal Building. The
complainant believed this was a result of a neighbor dispute. A Police Lieutenant
reviewed surveillance videos and found the activity to be unfounded. A report
was completed documenting the reported activity.
8/5/2023 12:20 AM, (Assist other Agency)
Fair Lawn Police reported the phone of a missing person was pinging on West
Passaic Street. Police searched multiple areas of the Township and the person
was eventually located safely at the Garden State Plaza.
8/5/2023 11:33 AM, (Breach of Peace)
An employee of a West Passaic Street car wash reported an unwanted customer.
The customer previously created a disturbance while buying wash vouchers and
was advised his business in no longer accepted. Matter settled, except for a dirty
car.
8/5/2023 5:02 PM, (Local Ordinance Violation)
A Patrol Sergeant observed several live horses, not to be confused by the faux
full-size horses, to be on site at a West Passaic Street restaurant. The horses were
accompanied by a group of males donning cowboy hats. The restaurant owner
was located, advised of the local ordinance prohibiting "other animals", and
issued a warning.
8/6/2023 3:07 PM, (Domestic Violence - Arrest)
Police received a report of an assault in the area of a West Passaic Street and
Paramus Road business. The female victim reported she was assaulted by the
father of her child. The actor, a 30-year-old male from Paterson, fled the scene
prior to police arrival. He additionally stole the victims' cell phone. Warrants
were issued for the suspects' arrest. The following day he turned himself in and
was committed to the Bergen County Jail.
8/8/2023 2:22 AM, (Commitment)
Patrol located a male party sitting under a trailer parked in a West Passaic Street
parking lot. Upon initial contact, an empty bottle of vodka was located and the
male, a 35-year-old from Leonia, exhibited dangerous levels of intoxication
(slurred speech / inability to stand). When asked who the current President was,
the male replied, "Barack Obama." EMS was summoned and the patient was
committed to a local hospital.
8/8/2023 8:02 AM, (Domestic Violence - Arrest)
A 911 hang up was reported, stemming from a Rochelle Avenue residence.
Responding patrol located a dispute between siblings, one of which exhibited
physical injuries. A 22-year-old female resident was charged with simple assault
and released. No protection orders were sought.
8/9/2023 8:31 AM, (Shoplifting)
The manager of a Rochelle Avenue pharmacy reported two female shoplifters just
fled the store. The suspects stole an unknown number of cosmetics. Surveillance
images were broadcast to surrounding jurisdictions.
8/9/2023 2:36 PM, (Narcotics Arrest)
A motor vehicle stop was conducted on Route 17 for an equipment violation. The
driver, a 31-year-old male from Bensalem, Pa., was found to be in possession of
anabolic steroids and psilocybin mushrooms. He was charged with possession of
C.D.S. and released.
8/10/2023 1:12 PM, (Commitment)
Patrol Officers were dispatched to a West Passaic Street tattoo shop. It was
reported that an unknown male entered the business, took his shirt off, and
requested a tattoo. The male did not have an appointment. Upon police arrival
the male began to growl loudly. He was secured and committed to a local
hospital for evaluation.
8/13/2023 12:11 AM (DWI -Arrest)
A caller reported an erratic driver on Rochelle Avenue near Midland School.
Patrol located a Blue Honda stopped at a GREEN light. A motor vehicle stop
ensued and officers located open containers of alcohol inside the vehicle. The
driver, a 32-year-old male resident, was arrested, charged with DWI, and
committed to a hospital due to his intoxication level.
8/13/2023 7:56 PM (Shoplifting)
Security from a West Passaic Street supermarket reported a shoplifter in custody.
The 17-year-old shoplifter from Franklin Lakes was detained, stolen goods were
recovered, and a family member took custody of the juvenile.
8/14/2023 6:00 AM (Arrest - Adult)
A male resident walked in to headquarters to report he is being followed. The
complainant stated he met another party in NYC at the Ritz Hotel. He invited the
male to join him in a cab for an after party. Once arriving in Rochelle Park, the
complainant no longer desired the other males' company. He was followed to a
convenience store and then to police headquarters. Once in headquarters, the
male "follower" was found to possess an NCIC warrant from the NYPD. The
male, age 33 of the Bronx, NY, was arrested and committed to Bergen County
Jail.
8/14/2023 9:52 AM (Suspicious Person)
A resident responded to headquarters to report a suspicious male stood in his yard
at 5:00 AM. The Cedar Drive resident questioned the male and he stated, "I just
came from the Bronx in a taxi." The male was last seen walking on Passaic Street
with another male. The resident was put at ease when he advised that the same
male was arrested and committed to jail minutes after his sighting.
8/15/2023 9:14 AM (Arrest -Adult)
A patrol officer located a vehicle with a stolen license plate. Upon police contact
the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed on Essex Street. The driver was
apprehended on Paramus road after a collision with a light pole. The 27-year-old
suspect from New York, NY, was found to be a wanted party out of NYC. He
was charged with multiple offenses and committed to the Bergen County Jail.
8/15/2023 1:55 PM (Fraud)
An Essex Street business reported business checks were stolen via USPS mail and
deposited into fraudulent accounts. The losses were in excess of $500,000.
Detectives are working with multiple agencies on the investigation.
8/17/2023 8:31 PM (Breach of Peace)
A complainant reported that he paid for 14 gallons worth of gas at an Essex Street
gas station. The male complainant from Lodi stated he did not receive his fuel as
his dashboard still indicated "E". A second pump was tested and the vehicle gas
gauge was found to be faulty. The complainant turned his disgust away from the
gas station and on to Volkswagen.
8/18/2023 7:11 AM (Suspicious Person)
A caller reported a male screaming in a parked vehicle at a supermarket. Patrol
located a 47-year-old male from Paramus and found him to be screaming due to a
broken wristwatch. The male was advised it was TIME to leave the area.
8/18/2023 7:25 PM (Fraud)
A resident of East Terrace Avenue reported a bank account fraud. The male
complainant reported receiving an email confirming a password change on his
banking account. A check of his account revealed two unauthorized transfers
totaling $11,500. The bank fraud department and detectives were notified and are
investigating.
In addition, (26) suspicious persons/vehicles were vetted and (63) motor vehicle
stops were conducted in a 14-day span.
A charge is not a conviction. All persons are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Charges can be amended or dismissed.
