A resident from Chestnut Avenue reported each time they move around in their
apartment, the downstairs neighbor bangs on the ceiling. The downstairs resident
refused to answer the door and the complainant was advised to contact their
landlord.
1/2/2024 5:34 PM, (Fraud)
A female resident from Parkway responded to headquarters to report fraud in her
bank account. The victim received a "Zoom" call from male described as having
several tattoos and custom gold dentures. She answered questions from the male
and then learned that $10,000 was removed from her bank account. Detectives
were assigned.
1/3/2024 9:53 AM (Burglary to Auto(s))
Several callers reported burglaries to their vehicles which were parked at a West
Passaic Street hotel. Five vehicles in total were affected, each vehicles' rear
window was smashed and various proceeds were reported. One of the items was
last found "pinging" in Newark, NJ. Detectives are investigating.
1/3/2024 10:30 AM, (MVA - Hit and Run)
A caller reported his vehicle was struck while parked at Midland School. A
review of surveillance footage revealed a resident of Eldorado Court, struck the
vehicle in question, exited to assess the damage, and then left the scene without
reporting to police. Officers located the vehicle in question, matched damage to
the vehicle, and issued summonses for leaving the scene of an accident and failure
to report.
1/3/2023 2:38 PM, (Suspicious Occurrence)
A resident of West Oldis Street reported that her adult son sold a laptop without
permission. The son borrowed the computer from a friend and then "without
rational thinking" sold the laptop to a stranger on West Passaic Street for $100.
The son reportedly suffers from mental health episodes. Local references were
provided to the mother and she was advised to speak to the friend about the
computer value.
1/6/2024 5:04 PM, (Burglary to Auto)
Security from a West Passaic Street supermarket reported two vehicles with
smashed windows. The contents of both vehicles were disheveled. Surveillance
footage revealed a Black Honda Civic parked between the vehicle and committed
the burglary and theft. Detectives were assigned.
1/7/2024 8:18 PM, (Narcotics Arrest - Adult)
A patrol officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 17. Upon approaching
the driver, a prescription pill bottle with a defaced label was observed in a cup
holder. The driver, a 22-year-old male from Hackensack, was found in
possession of (15) illegally possessed amphetamine tablets. The driver was
charged with narcotic possession and released.
1/8/2024 11:47 AM, (Narcotics Arrest - Adult)
A patrol officer observed a vehicle not displaying a front license plate on Passaic
Street. A motor vehicle stop led to an on scene investigation. The driver, a 32-
year-old male was found to be in possession of several heroin bundles. The
arrestee was charged with several narcotic offenses and released on a summons.
1/9/2024 8:02 AM, (Fraud)
A resident reported dropping a check in the mail at an out of town post office.
Several days later he noticed the check was deposited into a fraudulent bank
account. An unknown suspect "washed" the check and issued it to another
person. Detectives were assigned and the bank issued a refund for stolen funds.
1/9/2024 9:05 PM, (Aided)
A Route 17 steakhouse reported a homeless male from Liberty, NY, required
assistance. Patrol responded, spoke with the 34-year-old male, and contacted a
local homeless shelter. The shelter agreed to house the individual and officers
transported him to the facility.
1/10/2024 9:20 PM, (DWI - Arrest)
Patrol received a report of a female asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle within a
West Passaic Street apartment complex. The female was located, awoken, and
subsequently failed field sobriety tests. A test of her breath samples produced a
result more than twice the legal limit. The 52-year-old female from Lodi was
issued several motor vehicle summonses and released to the custody of a friend.
1/10/2024 11:35 PM, (Arrest - Adult)
Security from a Passaic Street supermarket reported 3 shoplifters in custody. One
of the actors was found to possess an open child support warrant from the Hudson
County Sheriff's Office. The 30-year-old male from Elmwood Park was arrested
and turned over to Hudson County Authorities.
1/11/2024 8:01 AM, (Domestic Violence - Assault)
A caller from Chestnut Street reported a dispute with her mother. Responding
officers located injuries on one of the residents. A female party was arrested,
charged with simple assault, and released. No protection orders were requested.
1/11/2024 11:50 AM, (Narcotics Arrest - Adult)
Officers conducted a narcotics investigation in the area of a West Passaic Street
hotel. A hand to hand drug (heroin) transaction was observed and both the buyer
and seller were arrested. The dealer, a 31-year-old male from Paterson was
charged with narcotics distribution and committed to the Bergen County Jail. The
buyer was charged with possession and directed to recovery resources.
1/11/2024 2:51 PM, (Arrest - Adult)
A customer of a Route 17 dispensary attempted to enter with a false government
identification. An officer approached the 20-year-old male from White Plains,
NY, and he fled on foot. The suspect was apprehended after a short foot pursuit,
arrested, charged, and released on a summons.
1/12/2024 3:20 PM, (Arrest - Adult)
Loss prevention from a West Passaic Street supermarket reported a shoplifter in
custody. Responding patrol officers found the suspect to possess a no bail NCIC
warrant from the Passaic County Sheriff's Office. The 25-year-old male from
Paterson was turned over to Passaic County authorities.
1/15/2024 4:55 PM (Arrest - Adult)
An Essex Street sandwich shop reported a female party stole (2) blank gift cards.
The female reportedly walked across the street to a bar. Upon entering the bar,
officers realized the female was the same party currently wanted for stealing a
cargo van. In addition to the gift cards, the female was found to possess stolen
toilet paper. The 53-year-old homeless female was turned over to the custody of
Bergen County Sheriff's.
1/15/2024 10:53 PM (Domestic Violence - Assault)
A male and female caller both dialed 911 to report they assaulted one another in
the parking lot of a Rochelle Avenue pharmacy. Responding officers located a
male with injuries to his face. A 21-year-old female from Hackensack was
arrested, charged with simple assault, and released.
In addition, (20) suspicious persons/vehicles were vetted and (81) motor vehicle
stops were conducted in a 14-day span.
A charge is not a conviction. All persons are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Charges can be amended or dismissed.
