SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to conduct inspections, note violations, perform plan
review, and issue violation notices, for commercial, industrial, and residential premises under the
direction of the Health and Construction Department.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS including, but not limited to the following:
- Responsible for the planning, organizing and performance of enforcement of the Town’s
Property Maintenance ordinances during normal and off business hours.
- Inspects commercial and residential areas for violations.
- Confer with individual property owners relevant to service of notices and violations.
- Report concerns to appropriate departments in an organized, concise manner.
- Re-inspects premises to ensure compliance with code and regulations.
- Maintain records and reports of activities.
- May coordinate agency functions with other concerned agencies.
- Attends meetings, prepares reports, maintains accurate records and files.
- Presents inspection findings in court cases as needed
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be
able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of
the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- High School diploma or equivalent required; some college a plus.
- Must possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license free from any convictions for the last three (3)
years required.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, able to disseminate information relating to
the operations in a professional, concise and consistent manner.
- Strong customer service focus with strong interpersonal skills in dealing with the public sector.
- Strong organization skills, accuracy and attention to details.
- Experience in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and knowledgeable in other
database systems.
- Knowledge and understanding of municipal government a plus.
- Knowledge of state and municipal housing codes and zoning ordinances.
