Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 25-year-old MARCUS N. MARSON of Leonia, NJ on charges of attempted murder, attempted carjacking, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, possession of a weapon, and resisting arrest. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck and the Fort Lee Police Department under the direction of Chief Matthew Hintze.
On Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at approximately 9:17 a.m., the Fort Lee Police Department responded to a stabbing on Duncan Avenue in Fort Lee, NJ. Upon arrival, officers located a 37-year-old male victim with serious stab wounds, and the assailant had already fled the scene. The victim was immediately transported to Hackensack University Medical Center where he remains hospitalized in stable condition with multiple lacerations to his head and puncture wounds to his shoulder and arm. The suspect, later identified as MARCUS N. MARSON, was subsequently apprehended by Fort Lee Police Officers in the nearby backyard of an unrelated, private residence on Buckingham Road after a brief foot pursuit. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit was notified, responded, and initiated a joint investigation. Detectives determined that the victim, an Uber driver, was transporting MARSON, a passenger, who stabbed the victim multiple times while demanding to take custody of the vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, on January 28, 2025, MARCUS N. MARSON was charged with first-degree attempted murder, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1A(1)/2C:11-3A(1); first-degree attempted carjacking, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1A(1)/2C:15-2(1); third-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(2); third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, 2C:39-4D; fourth-degree possession of a weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5(d) and fourth-degree resisting arrest, N.J.S.A 2C:29-2A(2). MARSON was remanded to the custody of the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office pending his first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the Fort Lee Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this investigation.
