North Bergen Man Charged With Sexual Assault of a Child

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 29-year-old GUY R. MCCANN, II of North Bergen, NJ on charges of sexual assault, attempted sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, resisting arrest, and criminal mischief. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck and the River Vale Police Department under the direction of Chief Christopher Bulger.

On Friday, January 17, 2025, the River Vale Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding an alleged incident of sexual assault that occurred in the past. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the River Vale Police Department revealed that a stranger contacted a child under the age of 16 on Snapchat, a popular social media platform, and engaged in conversation. Subsequently, the unknown male made arrangements to meet the child in River Vale, NJ, and on Thursday, January 16, 2025, sexually assaulted the child.

As the investigation progressed, detectives determined that the stranger continued to contact the child and planned another meeting in order to engage in sexual activity. Further investigation revealed that GUY R. MCCANN, II was the adult communicating with the victim. On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, as planned, MCCANN, II once again traveled to River Vale, NJ to meet with the child, but was instead apprehended by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and River Vale Police Department after a brief foot pursuit.

As a result of the investigation, GUY R. MCCANN, II was arrested in River Vale, NJ and charged with second-degree sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2c(4); second-degree attempted sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1a(1)/N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2c(4); two counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1); fourth-degree resisting arrest, N.J.S.A. 29-2a(2); and fourth-degree criminal mischief, N.J.S.A. 2C:17-3a(1). MCCANN, II was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.
