On Thursday, January 9, 2025, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit charged a man in connection with a sexual assault and home invasion that occurred in Jersey City on Sunday, January 5, 2025.
Jermaine Adams, 47, is charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a(3), a crime of the first degree; Home Invasion Burglary in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2.1, a crime of the first degree; Aggravated Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(1), a crime of the second degree; Aggravated Arson in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:17-1, a crime of the second degree; Terroristic Threats in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C: 12-3a, a crime of the third degree; and Criminal Restraint in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:13-2a, a crime of the third degree. Adams was being detained at the Hudson County Correctional Facility on an unrelated matter when the above charges were filed.
Prosecutor Suarez credited the investigation and arrest to the Special Victims Unit and the Jersey City Police Department. The matter was expedited by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office new in-house DNA Laboratory, which produced critical results to assist in the investigation.
Shortly before 7 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2025, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a home invasion at a private residence on McAdoo Avenue. Responding officers located a female victim who reported an unknown male entered her residence through a window before physically and sexually assaulting her. The female victim was treated at a local hospital for multiple injuries.
