East Orange Mayor Joins NLC Centennial City Summit 2024

East Orange, NJ, November 18, 2024: Mayor Ted R. Green joined more than 4,000 fellow mayors and local leaders during the National League of Cities’ (NLC) Centennial City Summit this past week to discuss a variety of issues impacting cities, towns, and villages.

The National League of Cities is a nonpartisan organization whose mission is to focus on municipal issues such as affordable housing, public safety, infrastructure, workforce readiness, and more. No matter the size or demographics of a community, the summit presented an excellent opportunity for elected officials to connect with their peers and explore best practices and solutions for improving the lives of the people they serve.

This is a full circle moment for the City of East Orange, which was featured earlier this year when NLC staff visited East Orange as one of 100 tour stops across the United States to celebrate its century of work advocating for the diverse needs of populations throughout the nation.

“As a mid-sized urban city, East Orange has laid the groundwork for continued progress through significant redevelopment efforts, infrastructure upgrades, and strategic investments aimed at improving the quality of life for all its residents. Our commitment extends to various critical areas, including enhancing public safety measures, fostering social equity, expanding opportunities within our municipal workforce through apprenticeship programs, and ensuring that healthcare services are accessible to everyone in our community,” said Mayor Green. “The recent summit could not have come at a better time, as it served as a powerful reminder that, no matter who holds office, we—as local leaders—carry a vital responsibility to actively engage in the betterment of our city and its people.”
