Four Men Charged In Maywood Armed Robbery

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrests of 19-year-old BEIKER A. AGUILERA AREYAN of East Elmhurst, NY; 23-year-old DANIEL A. RIVAS-ALVARADO of New York, NY; 25-year-old YEISON J. AMARANTE BOLIVAR of Miami, FL; and 26-year-old JHON C. REQUENA YERENA of the Bronx, NY on charges stemming from an armed robbery. The arrests are the result of a months-long investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck and the Maywood Police Department under the direction of Chief Terence Kenny.

As previously reported, on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at approximately 11:15 a.m., the Maywood Police Department, along with backup officers from the Paramus and Rochelle Park Police Departments, responded to a jewelry store on West Pleasant Avenue in Maywood. Responding law enforcement determined that an armed robbery occurred at the business, and the suspects had already fled the scene. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad was notified, responded, and initiated a joint investigation with the Maywood Police Department into the incident. During the initial stages of investigation, law enforcement was informed that two male suspects entered the business and brandished firearms, pointing them at an employee and customer who were inside the store. One of the suspects grabbed the employee and a brief struggle ensued. Ultimately, the two suspects fled the store, leaving behind duct tape and zip ties.

As the investigation progressed, detectives determined that several additional suspects were involved in the planning and execution of the armed robbery. As part of the conspiracy, the suspects utilized two moped-style motorcycles, as well as a motor vehicle, to travel to and from the scene of the armed robbery in Maywood. Following a months-long, nationwide investigation, detectives were able to identify BEIKER A. AGUILERA AREYAN; DANIEL A. RIVAS-ALVARADO; YEISON J. AMARANTE BOLIVAR; and JHON C. REQUENA YERENA as four of the suspects involved in the armed robbery.

On Wednesday, June 19, 2024, DANIEL A. RIVAS-ALVARADO and BEIKER A. AGUILERA AREYAN were located and arrested in North Bergen, NJ by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad. AGUILERA AREYAN and RIVAS-ALVARADO are currently detained in the Bergen County Jail as a result of the charges filed in this matter.

On Thursday, September 5, 2024, YEISON J. AMARANTE BOLIVAR was located and arrested in Miami, Florida by members of the Miami Police Department. In connection with an existing investigation in Florida involving AMARANTE BOLIVAR, law enforcement in Miami was able to recover a watch worth approximately one million dollars that was stolen during a robbery in Beverly Hills, California. Additionally, a stolen rifle and a handgun were also recovered. AMARANTE BOLIVAR is currently detained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami, Florida, pending extradition to face charges in Bergen County, New Jersey.

On Friday, October 4, 2024, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad, alongside special agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and officers from the New York City Police Department, located and arrested the fourth suspect, JHON C. REQUENA YERENA, in New York City. REQUENA YERENA was taken into custody, extradited, and is currently detained in the Bergen County Jail as a result of the charges filed in this matter.

REQUENA YERENA were each charged with two counts of first-degree armed robbery, N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1a(1); second-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2a(1)/ N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1a(1); second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b(1); and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1).

DANIEL A. RIVAS-ALVARADO was charged with two counts of first-degree armed robbery, N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1a(1); second-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2a(1)/ N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1a(1); second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b(1); second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1); and two counts of fourth-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(4).
