Wayne Woman Charged With False Public Alarm

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the charge of false public alarm filed against ADELE ULRICH, 72, of Wayne, NJ. The charge is the result of a months-long investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck.

On Saturday, August 17, 2024, members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Intelligence & Counter-Terrorism Unit were notified by the Teaneck Police Department that an unknown telephone caller using technology to anonymize their “caller ID” placed a telephone call to Holy Name Medical Center claiming that several bombs were going to detonate in the hospital. First responders, including the Teaneck Police Department, Teaneck Fire Department, and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad, along with hospital officials, took measures to ensure the safety of the facility while members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Threat Management Unit and detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit initiated an investigation to trace the call. Ultimately, first responders determined that the call was a hoax, and no actual threat existed to the hospital.

As a result of the investigation, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit determined that the caller was ADELE ULRICH. On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, ADELE ULRICH was charged with second-degree false public alarm, N.J.S.A. 2C:33-3a(1)(b). ULRICH is scheduled for a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ on November 13, 2024.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charge is merely an accusation, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecutor Musella thanks the Teaneck Police Department, under the direction of Chief Andrew McGurr, for its assistance in this investigation, as well as all the agencies that responded to this incident.
