Crossing Guard Hit-and-Run

On October 24, 2024, at approximately 3:25 PM, a Town of Harrison Crossing Guard was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. A witness at the scene provided police with a photograph of the vehicle fleeing the scene. Police used the Town of Harrison Surveillance Cameras and were able to determine the make and model of the vehicle.

On October 29, 2024, the Harrison Police Department Traffic Unit observed a vehicle that matched the description of the vehicle that fled the scene. Detective personnel were called to the scene and conducted an interview with the operator of the vehicle. After speaking with the driver, it was determined that she in fact struck the crossing guard and fled the scene. The driver stated she was unaware she struck anyone with her vehicle due to her loud music playing while she was driving.

The driver of the vehicle was issued motor vehicle tickets. The victim of the Hit and Run Accident received medical treatment for her injuries.

It is always important to be aware of your surroundings while operating a motor vehicle. Driving distracted, whether being on your phone or listening to loud music, can create situations like the one described above. The Harrison Police Department understands accidents happen, but we urge you to take all precautions to minimize the risk of accidents happening.
