1. On October 12, 2024, at approximately 1:10 a.m., Police Officers Andrias Bonilla and Josh
Campoverde were on the 200 block of Washington Street when a bystander pointed out a vehicle
he believed was being driven by an intoxicated person. Officers pulled the vehicle over on the
100 block of Washington Street and when the driver, later identified as 23-year-old Nick
Zapatanga of Newark, rolled down the window, they smelled a strong odor of alcoholic beverage
emanating from his breath. He was ordered out of the car and a standardized field sobriety test
was performed, after which he was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. Zapatanga
was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. It was discovered he had a warrant out of
Newark. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving. He was given a
new court date in Newark and as per John’s Law, was released into the custody of a responsible
party.
2. On October 12, 2024, at approximately 2:15 p.m., Police Officer Arturo Gonzalez was
conducting a check of Church Square Park, when a woman he identified as 50-year-old Patricia
Lavacchi of Union City, began to walk toward him and yell at him. As he walked away, she
followed and continued to yell at him, threatening him with physical violence. She continued to
menace and threaten the officer, wave her fist in his face, and got even closer, despite orders to
stay back. Lavacchi was told she was being placed under arrest and she resisted by refusing to
place her hands behind her back. Police Officers Cynthia Rivera and Joson Montalvo arrived to
assist. A search incident to arrest located a plastic water bottle that was filled with vodka, and
two plastic pint bottles of vodka. Lavacchi was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and
charged with making terroristic threats, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. She was also
issued a summons for having an open bottle containing alcoholic beverage. She was processed
and then transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
3. On October 12, 2004, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Police Officers Anthony Olivera and
Michael Aviles responded to ShopRite, 900 Madison St., on reports of an employee who was
caught stealing money from a register. The actor, identified as 37-year-old Lenzie Bryant of
Jersey City, was in the custody of store security. Bryant was arrested and transported to Hoboken
Police Headquarters. It was learned he had taken approximately $800 over the course of multiple
shifts. Bryant was processed, charged with theft, and released on a summons.
4. On October 13, 2024, at approximately 4:10 a.m., Police Officers Alexander Miller and
Anthony Ingraffia were on patrol of the 100 block of River Street when they saw a man sitting in
the vestibule of PNC Bank, 111 River St. Officers recognized the man as 64-year-old Antonio
Figueroa of Hoboken, as they had already told him to leave the vestibule, and had told him if he
was found there again, he’d be subject to a summons for defiant trespassing. Figueroa was issued
the summons and told if he was found trespassing there again, he’d be arrested.
5. On October 13, 2024, at approximately 11:20 a.m., Detective Paul Quinn and Police Officer
Geovanni Cruzado responded to Pier A Park on reports of a man pushing and shoving people in
the park. Sgt. Roary Miller and Police Officer Michael Aviles were on the scene, with a man
who matched the description of the suspect. The man was identified as 54-year-old Efrain Colon
of Paterson, and it was learned he had two warrants for his arrest on criminal mischief charges in
Hoboken. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and processed. He was ultimately
transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
6. On October 13, 2024, at approximately 9:35 p.m., Police Officers John Rodriguez and
Shyenna Vega responded to Madd Hatter, 221 Washington St., on reports of a dispute between
patrons over a possible theft. An on-scene investigation revealed an individual, later identified as
41-year-old Nicholas Cristi of Blairstown, walked up to another man, harassed him, and walked
away, but came back and put the victim in a chokehold and stole his chain, worth $7,000. As
Cristi tried to leave the bar, security stopped him. Sgt. Roary Miller and Police Officer
Christopher Barral arrived on the scene to assist. Christi was arrested and transported to
Hoboken Police Headquarters. He was charged with simple assault and theft, processed, and
released from custody.
7. On October 14, 2024, at approximately 2:55 a.m., Police Officers Alexander Miller and
Nicholas Losurdo responded to PNC Bank, 111 River St., on reports of a man lying in the
vestibule. The officers recognized the man as someone they’d already told to leave a bank
vestibule earlier in the evening and had been told, if he was found in a vestibule again, he would
be issued a summons for defiant trespassing. The man, identified 23-year-old Joseph Benton of
New York City, was given the summons and told if he was found in a bank vestibule again,
without using the ATM, he would be arrested.
8. On October 14, 2024, at approximately 6:35 a.m., Police Officers Nicholas Losurdo and
Alexander Miller were flagged down in the area of CVS, 59 Washington St., by a store employee
who reported a man had just filled an Amazon bag with cosmetic supplies and left the CVS
without paying. Police Officer Campoverde responded to the scene. Officers canvassed the area
and saw a man who fit the description of the actor on the 50 block of Bloomfield Street. Officers
could identify the man as 23-year-old Rodolfo Gutierrez Calvillo in Hoboken, and he was
carrying an Amazon bag. They stopped him and a search of his bag located the cosmetic supplies
believed to have been stolen from CVS. A search incident to arrest located a burnt cylindrical
glass tube with copper mesh, commonly used to smoke CDS crack cocaine. He was transported
to the Hoboken Police Department and processed on shoplifting and possession of drug
paraphernaila charges. He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
9. On October 14, 2024, at approximately 4:35 p.m., Police Officers Rodriguez and Shyenna
Vega responded to ShopRite, 900 Madison St., on reports of a shoplifting in which the actor was
in custody of store security. The individual, later identified as 65-year-old Douglas Dillon of
Union, was seen placing items into a bag that was hidden inside a shopping cart and when
security stopped him on his way out, he tried to use an old receipt that included 12 items totaling
$54.48. The 18 items he had put in his bag added up to $95.57. Douglas was charged with
shoplifting, transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters, processed, and then released with a
summons and court date.
10. On October 14, 2024, at approximately 10:25 p.m., Sgt. Roary Miller and Police Officers
Christopher Barral and Remy Garcia Marte responded to Hoboken University Medical Center,
308 Willow Ave., on reports of a disorderly person who pulled and activated the fire alarm
system. An on-scene investigation revealed the individual, identified as 62-year-old Michael
Ramos of Hoboken, pulled the alarm on his way out of the hospital. He was placed under arrest,
transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters, and charged with causing false public alarm. It was
discovered he had an open warrant for bail jumping. Ramos was transported to the Hudson
County Correctional Facility.
11. On October 16, 2024, at approximately 3:50 a.m., Police Officers Alexander Miller and
Daniela Simone responded to Citizens Bank, 211 River St., on reports of a man sleeping in the
vestibule. It was discovered the man, identified as 24-year-old Tyrese Buckhanon of Hoboken,
had been removed from another vestibule earlier that night and had been told then, that if he was
found in a bank vestibule again, he would be issued a summons for defiant trespassing. Officers
issued Buckhanon the summons and told him if he was found in a bank vestibule again, for any
reason other than to use the ATM, he would be arrested for defiant trespassing. A short time
later, officers responded to PNC Bank, 111 River St., and found Buckhanon sleeping in that
vestibule and not utilizing the room for its intended purpose. He was placed under arrest for
defiant trespassing and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. He was issued a summons
and released from custody.
