Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Department Officer-In-Charge Isa Abbassi announce that on October 21, 2024, at approximately 6:49 p.m., a Paterson
police officer struck a pedestrian as the officer was exiting the Paterson Police Department
parking lot on Memorial Drive. The officer remained on scene and attempted to render aid to the
victim, a 51-year-old male from Newark. The victim was transported to Saint Joseph’s
University Medical Center for injuries to his arm and head but was subsequently pronounced
deceased.
This investigation is active and ongoing. More information will be released when it becomes
available.
