News Update from the Mayor
October 18, 2024

Hello. This is Mayor Mark Zinna with a Friday news update.

Our Borough Engineers are going to be performing survey work throughout Tenafly over the next several months as part of our storm water solutions effort. The surveyors will be carrying IDs and wearing yellow vests. All survey work is performed outdoors only.

An online survey is being conducted to gauge demand for the Tenakill Pool continuing as a municipal pool. Please visit the Borough website to voice your opinion and participate in the survey.

We are please to announce that Tenafly’s new Pickleball Courts are now open and ready for play. When you have a chance please visit the courts located within Roosevelt Commons.

This weekend is the Tenafly Fall Festival! Sunday, October 20, from Noon to 5 pm in Huyler Park. Come in costume for a day filled with fun, unique shopping, food trucks, seasonal activities, and live performances making it a terrific community event. We would like to encourage those that live close enough to walk or bike from home.

At the Nature Center this weekend it is Nature Story Time and Hangin with the Herps which can be enjoyed by adults and families on Saturday, October 19. And, the last Apple Cider Making session will take place on Sunday, October 20. Register at tenaflynaturecenter.org

The Nature Center invites Seniors to sign up through the Senior Center for Apple Cider Making this weekend. Learn about the history of apple cultivation and cider making and experience one of the original ways of making fresh, crisp apple cider! Contact the Senior Center today.

At the Presbyterian Church it is time for their Fall Festival with food, live music, games, and an art exhibit in the gardens this Saturday, October 19, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Then, it is music for piano of works by Haydn, Berg, Granadas and Chopin on Sunday, October 27 at 4:30 pm in the old stone chapel. For details call 201-567-0111.

The Tenafly Library Friends have two special events coming up this week. This Sunday, October 20 at 2 pm at the library is their 1st concert of the year. You will have an opportunity to hear the world renowned Alex Prizgintas perform a program titled Bach to Rock. Immediately following will be the Friends' annual Cider Social and Dessert membership kickoff in the McCandless Room at 3 pm. All our welcome!

Then, On Monday, October 21 at 10:30 am in the library, the Friends will present popular Art Educator, Janet Mandel who will give a talk on the famous artist, Winslow Homer. This is a free event sponsored by the Tenafly Library Friends.

ACEing Autism, a non-profit whose mission is to help children with Autism Spectrum Disorder grow and benefit from social connections and fitness through affordable tennis programming at the JCC. It will run every Sunday until October 20 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. If you are interested in signing your child up (ages 5-18) please email kaplenjcc@aceingautism.org.

Save the Date - On Saturday, October 26 from 9:00 am to 12 Noon it’s a Pancake Breakfast and Bake Sale at the Senior Center. Open to everyone!

The St. Thomas Armenian Church is hosting a food festival indoors on Sunday, October 27 from Noon to 7:00 pm. There will be plenty of delicious foods, baked goods, refreshments and much more. Entertainment for the children includes a Clown, Magic Show, Face Painting, Cotton Candy, Balloons, and more. Admission is free and there is plenty of parking.

The Tenafly Rotary is planning a joint fun "game night" afternoon with Brightview and the Senior Center for Monday, October 28 from 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm. More details to follow in next weeks’ message.

The Community Chest Fall Celebration is Tuesday, October 29 at the Englewood Field Club, featuring Shake, Rattle and Roll Dueling Pianos.
