Fatal Fire in Jersey City Residential Building

The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Jersey City Fire Department are investigating a fatal fire that occurred on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.

Shortly after 10 a.m., the Jersey City Fire Department received a report of a fire at 121 Garfield Avenue in Jersey City. Upon arrival, emergency responders found fire coming from a third floor bedroom of a three story residential building. During suppression activities, firefighters located an injured male, later identified as Pablo Renta, 56, of Jersey City. He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead just before 7 p.m.

This matter is under investigation by the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Jersey City Fire Department. Foul play is not suspected at this time.
