Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of MATTHEW S. CHINCHILLA, 18, of Lodi, NJ, on charges of possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck.

On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at the residence of MATTHEW S. CHINCHILLA during the course of an Internet child sexual abuse material investigation. The investigation revealed that CHINCHILLA used the Internet to view, download, possess, and distribute items depicting nude and/or sexually explicit prepubescent and pubescent children.

As a result of the investigation, MATTHEW S. CHINCHILLA was arrested on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, in Paramus, NJ and charged with second-degree distribution of child pornography, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4(b)5(a)(i); and third-degree possession of child pornography, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4(b)5(b)(iii). CHINCHILLA was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecutor Musella thanks the Lodi Police Department for their assistance, as well as the Waldwick, Saddle Brook, and Paramus Police Departments, as well as the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, which all participate in the Bergen County Cyber Crimes Task Force.
