Alfredo Gonzalez
The following is an update related to previously released information regarding the arrest of 34-year-old Alfredo
Gonzalez of Guttenberg, NJ, for the misuse of a 9-1-1 emergency line. Mr. Gonzalez was arrested, processed, and lodged
in the Hudson County Correctional Center following an investigation regarding his fabrication of a fire and mental health
emergency to elicit an emergency response. Following his arrest, the Guttenberg Police Department was notified by
members who work with Hudson County 9-1-1 Emergency Communications, that Mr. Gonzalez had continuously abused
the 9-1-1 communications line with non-emergent matters on October 2nd, 2024. At the time that our organization
received this information, Mr. Gonzalez had already been lodged in the Hudson County Correctional Center. On October
3rd, 2024, Detectives with the Guttenberg Police Department Criminal Investigation’s Bureau were able to retrieve all of
the 9-1-1 call recordings, separate from those that had already led to the previous criminal charge. Following the review
of these recordings, as the result of the continued criminal investigation, Mr. Gonzalez was also charged with nine (9)
counts of false public alarm/misuse of 9-1-1 line [2C:33-3E], fourth-degree crimes, and one (1) count of false reports to
law enforcement [2C:28-4B], a fourth-degree crime, after it was discovered that Mr. Gonzalez fabricated that a white
Land Rover had pulled over next to him and was going to shoot him. Thankfully, Mr. Gonzalez was located in an area,
that at the time of the call, was viewable by our CCTV surveillance cameras. The review of this footage showed that Mr.
Gonzalez was not approached by any vehicles, nor did he have any interaction with anyone, other than a few of our
Officers who had to respond to countless non-emergent calls that Mr. Gonzalez placed.
These additional criminal charges were issued on a complaint warrant. Prior to his release from the Hudson
County Correctional Center on October 3rd, 2024, for the original complaint warrant, Mr. Gonzalez was re-arrested at the
Hudson County Correctional Center, processed on the new complaint warrant, and again lodged inside of the Hudson
County Correctional Center.
Message from Deputy Chief Frank Pelaez: As previously stated, the abuse of the 9-1-1 communications line is absolutely
unacceptable. Discovering that the abuse was much more serious than initially known should further highlight the
importance of pursuing and holding individuals who engage in this behavior accountable for their actions. Fabricating a
fire emergency and a mental health emergency was dangerous enough. However, to add a fabricated story about
someone shooting another person makes it that much worse. This could have led to a justified emergency response that
could have endangered the public and our officers. The Guttenberg Police Department will go to whatever length
necessary to ensure individuals like this are held accountable and stopped from endangering the safety of the public and
the safety of my officers.
