Explore Local History at the Sussex County Library System

Newton, NJ – The Sussex County Library System (SCLS) is excited to announce new offerings and events available through its Local History and Genealogy Department. Whether you are passionate about tracing your family roots, uncovering the history of your house, viewing historic photographs and maps, or exploring the history of Sussex County’s towns and villages, SCLS has something for you. SCLS is proud to introduce a new Digital Archive, to feature digitized images, slides, and manuscripts from the Local History and Genealogy Department. The first collection is hobbyist photographer Fred Kattermann’s collection of photographs of local buildings, roads, and landscapes taken in 1976. History of Architectural Styles in Sussex County at Main Library
Date & Time: October 5, 2024, 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm
Location: Main Library, 125 Morris Turnpike in Frankford
Sussex County Historical Society President Wayne McCabe presents the history of architectural styles found in Sussex County beginning with early European settlers.

Buildings of Historic Franklin at Franklin Branch & via Zoom
Date & Time: October 12, 2024, 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Location: Franklin Branch, 103 Main Street in Franklin and Virtually via Zoom link
Local historian Phil Crabb explores the history of Franklin’s churches, houses, and library.

Grow Your Family Tree at Main Library
Date & Time: October 24, 2024, 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm
Location: Main Library, 125 Morris Turnpike in Frankford
The “Genealogy Detective” teaches how to uncover a family tree with ease and confidence.

Local History and Genealogy @ Your Library at Dennis Branch
Date & Time: October 25, 2024, 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm
Location: Dennis Branch, 101 Main Street in Newton
Discover the local history collection with Librarian Tara Schaberg.
