Hello. This is Mayor Mark Zinna with a Friday news update.
The gas line upgrades that PSE&G is performing is working its way through our town. Thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding as the work gets completed.
Congratulations to Dashel Prywes a TMS student. Dashel successfully set a Guinness World Record for the tallest Magna-tile tower at over fifty feet high to raise awareness for childhood kidney disease. Thanks to all his family and community members that made this goal a success!
Thank you to the Summer Concert Series Committee, comprised of Richard Baratta, Alona Wartofsky, Sam Rosmarin and Jennifer Jackson, for putting together yet another year of stellar lineup of musical talent. The concerts take place at Huyler Park throughout the summer, is free to the public, and is partially funded by the generous contributions of businesses in our area and private donations from our residents. We’re looking forward to an even more star studded line up next year, and we will be posting a QR Code for easier access for donations in future correspondences.
The annual Elks Clam Bake is this Saturday, September 7 at the Elks Lodge on Franklin Street. Tickets are $40 in advance and $45 at the door. Great food and fun from 2:00 to 7:00 pm. For details call Adele at 201-245-2911 or email tenafly2271@yahoo.com
The Nature Center has several programs this Saturday and Sunday including Crafty Critters and Apple Cider Making. Starting on Monday next week the Nature Center will be running its morning Family Forest School for children 18 months to 3.5 years and their caregivers, and Afternoon Forest School for children 3.5 to 7 years of age. Each week they will set out to visit some of their favorite Forest School play spots and engage in developmentally appropriate nature exploration and experimentation. In one week the Nature Center invites you to enjoy Cocktails Under the Stars for a night out for nature on Saturday, September 14 from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Bring your friends for a fun night out! The Tenafly students Interact Club is creating a video for Grandparents Day, September 8. The goal is to encourage people to spend time with Grandparents and Senior family members while engaged in, and recording short conversations or activities. Your video, or audio clip with a photo, should be limited to 30-45 second clips. All the completed videos and audio clips will be posted on the Interact Club YouTube Channel. Clips can be submitted to Winsten Lamb at email: 25wlam@tenafly.k12.nj.us The video will premiere on September 9.
Mommy, Daddy & Me, every Saturday from 10 am to 11:30 am beginning on September 28. Ages 5 and under welcome with caregiver. Fun and creative play and social time. September 22 at 6 PM is the international potluck dinner. Bring a dish to represent your favorite traditional family meal and celebrate the diversity of our community through food. ACEing Autism, is a non-profit organization whose mission is to help children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) grow, develop and benefit from social connections and fitness through affordable tennis programming. We're excited to bring this national program to Tenafly starting September 15, at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades. It will run every Sunday until October 20 (except October 13), from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. If you are interested in signing your child up (ages 5-18) to participate, or if high school students and adults want to volunteer - please email kaplenjcc@aceingautism.org.
