News Update from the Mayor

Hello. This is Mayor Mark Zinna with a Friday news update.

The DPW and the Recycling Center will be closed for Labor Day on Monday, September 2. Monday trash will be picked up on the East side of town as normally scheduled.

The Senior Center would like to say THANK YOU to all that came out and supported the annual Rummage and Bake Sale Fundraiser. It was a huge success! Thank you to the amazing volunteers, the Senior Center would not be the same without all of you. Thank you Tenafly for your continued support, our Senior Community truly appreciates all of you!

Registration is open for all Recreation Fall Programs, Sports and Events. Register now on Community Pass. For more information visit the Borough website to view the full program guide under Parks and Recreation.

The Nature Center buildings will be closed on Monday, however the trails will be open and everyone is encouraged to come and enjoy. Regular operations will resume on Tuesday. Join Nature Center educators this weekend for the start of a seasonal favorite, Apple Cider Making this Sunday, September 1st and enjoy a sweet treat for adults and families with children of all ages.

In less than two weeks adults 21 and over are invited to Cocktails Under the Stars. Gather for a fun night of drinks, dancing and light bites. Mingle around a cozy campfire, enjoy delectable light bites, take a chance at the 50/50 raffle, and delight in a visit from one of TNC’s nocturnal Animal Ambassadors. Dashel Prywes, a TMS student continues his quest to set a Guinness World Record for tallest Magna-tile tower fifty feet or higher in order to raise awareness for childhood kidney disease. Come and support Team Dashel for the official record setting event this Monday, September 2, at the GOAT Climbing Gym in Hackensack at 11 am.

Our final concert of the summer is next Tuesday, September 3 at 7 pm in Huyler Park with the Motown and R&B of the Gentlemen of Soul. In case of rain the concert will take place Wednesday the 4th at Huyler Park.

Tenafly Schools Referendum - If you prefer to vote by mail for the Sept. 17 school referendum, be sure to submit your paper application to the county by September 10 by mail or by 3 pm September 16 in person. Applications are available at www.tenaflyschools.org/vote. And don't forget to "save the date" for the in-person forum on September 9th at Tenafly Middle School - 7 pm.

On September 5 The Tenafly Welcome! committee will welcome new residents from September 2023 to the present date at the New Residents’ Welcoming Event from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at the Peace Plaza, next to the library. This is a wonderful fun filled evening for the whole family filled with catered hors-d’oeuvres, desserts, balloons and raffle prizes. We look forward to meeting and welcoming our newest Tenafly Residents.

The annual Elks Clam Bake is September 7 at the Elks Lodge on Franklin Street. Tickets are $40 in advance and $45 at the door. Great food and fun from 2:00 to 7:00 pm. For details call Adele at 201-245-2911 or email tenafly2271@yahoo.com

Mark your calendars for Sunday, September 8 because you won’t want to miss the JCC Fall Open House. From 10:00 am to 1:00 pm you can sample and learn about the JCC. For details visit https://www.jccotp.org/event/membership-open-house/

The 10th Annual Tenafly Community Night is Tuesday, September 10, 5 pm to 8 pm on Riveredge Road (in front of Police/Fire Station and in the Borough Parking Lot) presented by Tenafly Recreation and Tenafly Police. Join in for food, drinks, entertainment, amusement rides, a DJ, local businesses, emergency service demos, contests, giveaways and more! Celebrating a decade anniversary you won't want to miss.

The Tenafly students Interact Club is creating a video for Grandparents Day, September 8. The goal is to encourage people to spend time with Grandparents and Senior family members while engaged in, and recording short conversations or activities. Your video, or audio clip with a photo, should be limited to 30-45 second clips. All the completed videos and audio clips will be posted on the Interact Club YouTube Channel. Clips can be submitted to Winsten Lamb at email: 25wlam@tenafly.k12.nj.us The video will premiere on September 9.

Mommy, Daddy & Me, every Saturday from 10 am to 11:30 am beginning on September 28. Ages 5 and under welcome with caregiver. Fun and creative play and social time. September 22 at 6 PM is the international potluck dinner. Bring a dish to represent your favorite traditional family meal and celebrate the diversity of our community through food.
