Hello. This is Mayor Mark Zinna with a Friday news update.
Traffic and safety improvements are coming to Jay Street, Piermont Road, the downtown bus stops, and the parking area in front of Cafe Angelique. Work will begin this coming Monday and there will be changes in traffic patterns. The Tenafly Police Department will make an announcement this weekend with details, which can also be found on the Borough website.
Tomorrow, Saturday, is the big rummage day sale at the Senior Center. Shop or just stop in for lunch. All items are priced to sell with something for everyone. Saturday from 9:00am to 4:00 pm, and Monday from 9:00 am to11:00 am.
Our summer concert series continues at 7 pm next Tuesday, August 27 in Huyler Park with the world music of Grammy award winner C Lanzbom’s, Soul Farm, fusing rock, Middle Eastern, and Bluegrass style. In case of rain the show will move to the High School auditorium.
Enjoy the free-flying native butterflies and moths at the Nature Center Butterfly House this Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday, August 25 at 10:30 am families with children ages 1 1/2 to 7 can visit the Nature Center to enjoy some time in the forest school mud kitchen creating cakes, potions, and other dirt delights. Save the date for the Revolution Dance Academy’s “Dance in the Park!" in Huyler Park, Monday August 26 from 3 pm to 5pm.
Join in an Outer Space Adventure August 26, 27, and 28, 9:30am to 12:30pm, ages 4 years to 5th grade. Enjoy new friends, amazing experiments, games, snacks, and music. RSVP by August 21 to 201-567-0111. Suggested donation of $25 per child, Presbyterian Church, 55 Magnolia Avenue.
Tenafly Schools Referendum - Tenafly residents (including college-bound students) can apply to vote by mail in the September 17 school referendum. To take advantage of this convenient option, submit your paper application to the county by September 10 by mail or by 3 pm September 16 in person. Applications are available at www.tenaflyschools.org/vote.
The New Residents’ Welcoming Event is coming very soon. Save the date, September 5, 6:00 to 7:30pm at the Peace Plaza, next to the library. This is a wonderful fun filled evening for the whole family filled with catered hors-d’oeuvres, desserts, balloons and raffle prizes. Check your mail for your personal invitation that will be arriving soon from the Tenafly Welcome! committee.
The annual Elks Clam Bake is September 7 down at the Elks Lodge on Franklin Street. Tickets are $40 in advance and $45 at the door. Great food and fun.
Mark your calendars for Sunday, September 8 because you won’t want to miss the JCC Fall Open House. From 10:00 am to 1:00 pm you can sample and learn about the JCC. For details visit https://www.jccotp.org/event/membership-open-house/
The Tenafly students Interact Club is creating a video for Grandparents Day, September 8. The goal is to encourage people to spend time with Grandparents and Senior family members while engaged in, and recording short conversations or activities. Your video, or audio clip with a photo, should be limited to 30-45 second clips. All the completed videos and audio clips will be posted on the Interact Club YouTube Channel. Clips can be submitted to Winsten Lamb at email: 25wlam@tenafly.k12.nj.us The video will premiere on September 9.
The 10th Annual Tenafly Community Night is Tuesday, September 10, 5pm to 8pm on Riveredge Road (in front of the Police/Fire Station and in the Borough Parking Lot) presented by Tenafly Recreation and Tenafly Police. Join in for food, drinks, entertainment, amusement rides, DJ, local businesses, emergency service demos, contests, giveaways and more!
