West New York Man Charged with Insurance Fraud

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit has arrested a West New York man following a forgery investigation.

Anthony Ayala, 31, is charged with Insurance Fraud in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:21-4.6a, a crime of the third degree; two counts of Forgery in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:21-1a(3), crimes of the third degree; and two counts of Tampering with Public Records in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:28-7a(2), crimes of the third degree. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City on Thursday, August 8, 2024, and released pending his first court appearance, which is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, August 20, 2024.

The investigation found Ayala purchased an insurance policy with Progressive Insurance on June 27, 2023, and then filed a claim alleging his Jeep Wrangler was involved in a single vehicle crash in Allamuchy, New Jersey. Ayala submitted altered New Jersey State Police reports to support the claim. It was determined the collision occurred on June 26, 2023, when the vehicle was not insured through Progressive Insurance.

Prosecutor Suarez credited members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit with the investigation and arrest. The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
