Another Delay for American Dream

Posted Sat, Nov 23, 2019, By Staff Writer

Given all the delays American Dream has experienced, it's not surprising to add one more to the list. The DreamWorks Water Park was originally scheduled to open on November 27, Thanksgiving Eve. This date would have been a great opportunity for visitors to utilize the long holiday weekend to experience the mega-mall for the first time. But wouldn't you know it. There is yet another delay.

This past Thursday, Dana McHugh, a spokesperson for American Dream, made the following statement: "Creating the ultimate entertainment experience takes time and patience. Unfortunately that means we'll have to wait a little longer for the opening of DreamWorks Water Park." No reason was given for the delay, and no new opening date was announced. In fact, according to the mall's official website, americandream.com, the opening date was simply changed to "Coming Soon". This suggests that whatever is causing the delay can't be resolved quickly.

When the waterpark does eventually open, it is slated to have over 40 water slides and 15 attractions, such as a lazy river and a 1.5 acre wave pool. It will also offer more thrilling experiences such as a 142 foot drop in the world’s tallest indoor body slide.

Although DreamWorks Water Park is indefinitely delayed, the next scheduled business to open seems to still be on track. As of this writing, Big SNOW is still set to open on December 5th, 2019, and it will be North America's only indoor real-snow park. It will offer skiing and snowboarding at various levels from the bunny hill to black diamond slopes. Private lessons, kids' camps, and other activities will also be available. Hopefully, Big SNOW will not be delayed as well.

Another day, another hiccup for American Dream. At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if there are other speed bumps along the way in the next few months. But at least American Dream is technically open, which is a big improvement from a few years ago when the whole project was in question. So at this point, for those of us who have been looking forward to experience everything the shopping complex has to offer, it is just a matter of playing the waiting game.
