Motor Vehicle Accident Leads to DWI Arrest

On July 13, 2024, Detective Lecca and Officer Yamuca responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of South 3rd Street and Harrison Avenue. Upon arrival, they observed one of the drivers involved in the accident had bloodshot eyes. The man also had an odor of alcohol emanating from his breath. The driver admitted to rear-ended the vehicle in front of him while he was stopped at the red light. Detective Lecca had the driver step out of the vehicle where he further observed that he had trouble maintaining his balance while walking. The driver also admitted to drinking beers of Heineken throughout the day. Detective Lecca conducted the Field Sobriety Testing where he failed to complete any of the tests satisfactorily. The man, Rodrigo Urrutia Ordenes, 43 of Kearny was subsequently placed under arrest for DWI. At headquarters, he refused to submit samples of his breath for analysis and was charged accordingly.
