JOB DUTIES:
Under direction, assists in supervising weights and measures personnel; inspects and tests weighing and measuring devices and
commodities in commerce for compliance with state law, regulations, and standards; does related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this class (1) assist in directing all activities in the enforcement of weights and measures laws and regulations, and (2) assist
in monitoring the progress of the organization toward stated goals and objectives periodically making appropriate adjustments.
Positions in this class are those in which the responsibility for managing the entire organization is shared between the superintendent
and the deputy, who aides the superintendent in all phases of the organization's work. In the absence of the superintendent, the
deputy assumes all of his duties, responsibilities, and authority. Typically, the deputy superintendent assists the superintendent in
planning, supervising; and directing all weights and measures activities. The deputy operates within broad policies and budget,
material, and manpower limitations established by management. The decisions and commitments made by the deputy carry the same
"weight" and have the same authority as those made by the superintendent.
The Deputy Superintendent assists in planning the distribution of work to subordinate workers on a day-to-day or a project-by-project
basis.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of experience in the servicing and repairing, testing, or calibrating weighing and measuring devices
NOTE: Thirty (30) semester hours from an accredited college in the fields of Engineering, Physics, Electronics, or Mathematics may be
substituted for one (1) year of the indicated experience.
NOTE: Applicants must have successfully completed the Weights & Measures training program conducted by the State Office of
Weights & Measures, Department of Law & Public Safety.
- LICENSE: Appointee will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee
mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
