Sewaren Man Charged With Sexual Assault and Endangering a Child

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 20-year-old RICHARD G. SIMKO of Sewaren, NJ on charges of sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck, and the Bergenfield Police Department under the direction of Chief Mustafa Rabboh.

On Sunday, May 19, 2024, the Bergenfield Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged sexual assault of a juvenile under the age of sixteen that had occurred in the past. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Bergenfield Police Department revealed that RICHARD G. SIMKO sexually assaulted a juvenile under the age of sixteen in Bergenfield on multiple occasions.

As a result of the investigation, on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, RICHARD SIMKO was arrested in Woodbridge, NJ by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and charged with five counts of second-degree sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2c(4); and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1). SIMKO was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the Bergenfield Police Department and the Woodbridge Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
