Attempted Motor Vehicle Theft in Harrison

On June 19, 2024, Harrison police responded to the area of Harrison and Davis Ave on a reported carjacking. The victim stated that he saw a black male wearing a white t-shirt enter her vehicle and attempt to steal it but was stopped by two witnesses. It was further alleged that the suspect motioned towards his waistband stating he had a gun before fleeing on foot. Detective Lecca and Officer Castanada located the suspect walking several blocks away where he was searched for weapons and detained pending further investigation. The victim and witnesses were brought to their location where they positively identified the suspect as the one who attempted to steal the vehicle. The suspect now identified as Anthony Height, 55 of Newark, further admitted to officers that he saw the vehicle running and wanted to steal it, but denied ever displaying a firearm or being in possession of one. A gun was not found on his person nor in the immediate area. Mr. Height was subsequently arrested and charged with Attempted Motor Vehicle Theft and Burglary. He also had an outstanding warrant out of Newark for $1,500.00. He was transported to Hudson County Correctional Facility awaiting a court appearance.
