Criminal Mischief-Assault on Harrison Police Officer

On June 25, 2024, Harrison Police were dispatched to the 200 block of Harrison Avenue on a report of a man setting a garbage bin on fire. The Harrison Fire Department also arrived on scene and were able to extinguish the fire before it could cause more damage. A witness stated that they observed a heavy-set white male throw an object into the garbage bin and stood by as the fire grew, but fled the area before police arrived. Sgt. Silva and Officer Gerris were able to locate the suspect near the intersection of Harrison Avenue and North 3rd Street. The suspect identified as Steven Corblies, 49 of Harrison, became combative and tried to leave when told by officers to stop. As officer’s attempted to place him under arrest he began to flail his arms and resist. He swung his arm towards the officer’s direction and struck the officer in the face. He was forcibly brought to the ground where he sustained a laceration to the top of his head. He was placed under arrest and charged with Arson, Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest. He was also found to be wanted by the Hudson County Sheriffs Office for Arson. He was subsequently transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
