News Update from the Mayor
June 28, 2024

Hello. This is Mayor Mark Zinna with a Friday news update.

Thank you to fifth grade Smith School students, Mia, Agam, Bella, and Gabby who attended this weeks Mayor & Council meeting to highlight their ideas on how to improve traffic safety. They presented data on the number of dogs dying from both distracted drivers and distracted dog walkers. The girls reminded us not to use cell phones when driving and walking your dog.

Join us this Saturday, June 29th (rain-date Sunday, June 30th) 10 am to 2:30 pm in Roosevelt Commons for the Annual 4th of July Celebration hosted by Tenafly Recreation. Come and join us for rides, games, giveaways, food, contests, DJ and more!

This Saturday, June 29, the Elks are hosting the second day of their Community Garage Sale. 9 am to 5 pm at the Elks Lodge at 20 Franklin Street. All proceeds benefit the Elks Special Children fund and camp.

This Saturday, and Sunday at 1:30 or 2:30 pm adults or families can enjoy a chance to feed butterflies at the Nature Center! Spend time in the Butterfly House and create your own seed ball to help pollinators at home. On Sunday at 1 pm learn about animal endangerment and extinction. Through hands-on encounters and live animals, participants will explore the global factors that threaten species survival. Register for this and more at tenaflynaturecenter.org

Reading Under the Stars, Wednesday July 10 from 6 pm to 8 pm, for ages 3 years to 5th grade. Outside, weather permitting, bring a blanket and dinner is included. Guest author, Dr. Valerie Williams-Sanchez will share her book, Isaiah and the Chocolate Mountain. At the Presbyterian Church, free of charge, donations welcome. RSVP to 201-567-0111.

For two weekends in July, the 13th and 14th and the 20th and 21st, experience the fascinating world of aerodynamics and propulsion with the Tenafly Rocket Pioneers. School Referendum: The Benefit of State Aid for Taxpayers - Tenafly Board of Education’s referendum has something for everyone. Building updates are investments in community assets. The referendum also proposes improved accessibility and safety measures. Read about it on the FAQs page of tenaflyschools.org/vote.

The Tenafly students Interact Club is creating a video for Grandparents Day, September 8. The purpose of the video is to encourage people to spend time with Grandparents and Senior family members while engaged in and recording short conversations or activities. Your video, or audio clip with a photo, should be limited to 30-45 second clips. Everyone is welcome to make a submission. All the completed videos and audio clips will be posted on the Interact Club YouTube Channel. Clips can be submitted to Winsten Lamb at email: 25wlam@tenafly.k12.nj.us The video will premiere on September 9.
