In March of 2022, the Hackensack Police Department notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Financial Crimes Unit of an alleged employee embezzlement. Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Financial Crimes Unit initiated an investigation into the alleged activity. The comprehensive investigation revealed that BRIANA RODRIGUEZ utilized her employment as a medical billing professional to embezzle approximately $400,000 from her employer through unauthorized refunds to accounts under her control.

As a result of the investigation, on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, BRIANA RODRIGUEZ was arrested outside of her residence in Bloomfield, NJ by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office along with assistance from the Bloomfield Police Department. RODRIGUEZ was charged with second-degree theft by unlawful taking, N.J.S.A. 2C:20-3a. RODRIGUEZ was released pending her first court appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
