Hello. This is Mayor Mark Zinna with a Friday news update.

The re-paving of Highwood Avenue from Tekening to downtown will begin this coming Monday and continue through next Friday. Weather permitting, work is scheduled from 7 am to 5 pm. Residents will have limited access to their driveways while re-paving is underway. Residents may park their cars overnight on adjacent streets while Highwood Avenue is closed.

Congratulations to the 4th grade boys Lacrosse team on taking home the gold at the Battle at the Brook lacrosse tournament this past weekend. Go Tigers!

Enjoy Chamber music with the Two Grammys and a Grampa piano trio at the Old Stone Chapel at the Presbyterian Church, tonight, Friday, June 7 at 7 PM. Music by Paul Schoenfeld, Piazzolla, Sarasate, Schubert, and Debussy. Free admission. Featuring two local students who won a Grammy and our High School Orchestra Director.

The Library Knitters are hosting a Knit-In-Public day from 8 am to 4 pm this Saturday, June 8 at Huyler Park. Knitters and crocheters of all experiences are welcome to enjoy their craft and teach newcomers. For details contact Dan Mikulsky at 551-238-0233.

The Fire Department is inviting everyone to an open house and equipment muster this Saturday, June 8 from Noon to 4:00 pm at the Fire Department. Enjoy a display of antique and new fire trucks, a smoke house for fire prevention education, refreshments and more. The rain date is June 15th.

This Saturday, Ave Lumi hosts 4th grade portrait artist Avram Shohet. From 3 pm to 5 pm have your portrait drawn for $5! Enjoy sweet treats inside the shop. Please RSVP at ave-lumi.com/events

Tomorrow, Saturday is the Health and Wellness Fair at the Senior Center from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Free yoga class at 11:00 am and a Free Country Line Dance Class at 1:00 pm. Join in for this free community event. Stop by for some free goodies and visit the vendor tables for information on improving your health and wellness.

The seventh annual Tenafly Pride Day parade and celebration is Sunday, June 9, kicking off from George Street at 1 pm and marching to Huyler Park. Thank you to the entire Pride Committee for the work they do organizing and raising awareness.

Nature Day is this Sunday, June 9 at the Nature Center. It’s a family friendly day filled with fun outdoor activities including Gemstone and Mineral Mining with Dinosaurs Rock, STEM Activities, the Butterfly House Grand Opening, Canoes on Pfister's Pond, Arts & Crafts, Food Trucks, Local Artisans, Vendors and Live Animals! Event parking is available at the Borough Hall/Public Library parking lot, with free shuttle transportation to and from the event available from 9:45 am to 5 pm. Register at tenaflynaturecenter.org

Enjoy a screening and discussion of "A Table for All" with filmmaker Thea Piltzecker. This documentary film portrays refugees and asylum seekers and their integration into United States culture through a Brooklyn kitchen. Sunday, June 9, 4:30 PM at the Presbyterian Church.

The Tenafly Library Friends are hosting a screening of Lo Capitano, nominated for Best Foreign Film at the most recent Academy Awards. Show time is Tuesday, June 11th at 1 pm in the Friends Room at the Library.

On Friday, June 14 from 7 pm to 11 pm, visit the St. Thomas Armenian Church Spring Evening Market. Enjoy shopping, great food, sip, socialize and entertainment. Artisans, small businesses and services, delicious food, and desserts. Ballroom dancing demonstrations, mocktail mobile bar, backgammon and chess tournaments, painting and more.

The Church of the Atonement is hosting its first Antiques Appraisal Event. Professional appraiser Jon Felz of RZM Fine Arts & Antiques will offer informal oral appraisals "road show style" of up to three treasures you bring to the event, which takes place on Saturday, June 15th, from 12:00 to 4:00 at 97 Highwood Avenue. Tenafly Public Schools' Referendum: The State Aid Advantage - The Board of Education is planning a bond referendum to accomplish much needed improvements, and as a financial strategy to seek funding sources outside the local tax base. The State of New Jersey uses everyone’s tax dollars to help school districts pay for capital improvements. That special kind of state aid is distributed only to districts that use bond funding.
