Collision Unit Investigating Crash That Injured Pedestrian

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Kearny Police Department are investigating a hit-and-run collision that critically injured a pedestrian on Thursday, May 30, 2024.

Shortly after 7 a.m., the Kearny Police Department was notified of a pedestrian struck at the intersection of Kearny Avenue and Columbia Avenue. Responding officers located a male victim, later identified as a 76-year-old Kearny resident, with serious injuries. The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene. The victim was transported by Emergency Medical Services to University Hospital in Newark, where he remains in critical condition.

During the preliminary investigation, the vehicle suspected of being involved in the collision was recovered. The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Kearny Department are actively investigating this matter.
