On May 14, 2024, Officer Melendez was dispatched to Walgreens Pharmacy on a report of shoplifting. The manager stated that a black male wearing a gray sweatshirt entered the pharmacy and stole 6 bottles of Lysol. She further stated that she recognized the suspect from previous shoplifting incidents. After reviewing the surveillance video, the suspect was positively identified as Jermaine Rabb, 44 of Newark. The matter was referred to the detective bureau and an arrest warrant is pending.

On May 18, 2024, Officer Melendez responded to QuickChek on a report of shoplifting where the suspect reportedly fled the store on foot. A description of the suspect was given to other officers at the scene. Detective Lecca was able to locate the suspect walking up the stairs and onto the platform at the Harrison Path Station. Detective Lecca was able to detain the suspect with the assistance of Port Authority Police Officers. A police “show-up” was conducted where the manager from QuickChek was brought to the scene and positively identified the suspect as the one who stole items from the store. The suspect, Alejandro Rodriguez, 27 of Jersey City, was arrested and transported to police headquarters. He was found to have two criminal warrants out of Newark and one out of the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office for (you guessed it) shoplifting. He was processed and transported to Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On May 20, 2024, Detective Lecca responded to the Walgreens Pharmacy on a report of shoplifting. A description of the suspect was given as a black male, wearing a gray hoodie and light blue jeans who was last seen fleeing the store on foot after stealing several items of laundry detergent. A canvass of the area was conducted in search of the suspect. Officer Castanada and Detective Lecca located the suspect walking west on Warren Street carrying a black bag containing several bottles of laundry detergents. They advised the suspect to stop, but he refused to do so and continued to walk away. As soon as officers exited their vehicles he began to run. After a short foot pursuit, he was brought to the ground and placed under arrest. Detective Lecca found a burnt glass pipe in his pocket which is commonly used to inhale crack cocaine. Further, a police “show-up” was conducted where the manager of Walgreens positively identified the suspect as the male who stole the items from the store. Jermaine Rabb, 44 of Newark, was transported to police headquarters where he was found to have a total of five outstanding criminal warrants out of Harrison and Newark. He was fingerprinted, processed, and charged with Shoplifting, Resisting Arrest, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was subsequently transported to Hudson County Correctional Facility.
