On April 19, 2024, Officer Delgado conducted a motor vehicle stop on a black Nissan Altima near Passaic Avenue and Reynolds Avenue. The registered owner of the vehicle was found to have a suspended driver’s license and had two outstanding warrants out of Secaucus in the amount of $850.00. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer immediately recognized the driver as the registered owner through his DMV photograph. The driver identified as Dasjon Simpson, 32 of Newark, became uncooperative and refused to provide his information. The driver initially denied being the registered owner and provided a different name to the officer. After attempting to verify the driver’s identity, he suddenly fled the scene at a high rate of speed. Detective Lecca arrived on the scene as backup in an attempt to locate the driver. Detective Lecca and Officer Delgado then located the driver on Hamilton Street and attempted to initiate a traffic stop however, the driver fled a second time driving against oncoming traffic and through several red traffic lights. The driver then drove over the bridge into the city of Newark where the stop was terminated due to safety concerns. Officer Delgado was able to positively identify the driver as the registered owner and issued several moving violation tickets which was mailed to his last known address. Furthermore, the driver was charged with Eluding and a warrant was placed out for his arrest.
