East Orange Partners with LiUNA! Local 55 for Apprenticeships

East Orange, NJ, May 5, 2024: The Mayor's Office of Employment and Training (MOET), in partnership with LiUNA! Local 55, will be hosting an Orientation Session for Residential Construction Apprenticeships on Friday, May 17 at 9:30am sharp.

This event, which is limited to East Orange residents only, will be held at the Public Parking Deck at Brick Church Train Station. Individuals must MEET the following requirements to apply for Local 55 apprenticeships:
  • East Orange resident 18+
  • Valid photo ID and driver’s license
  • Must pass drug testing
  • Physically able to do the work

This partnership with LiUNA! Local 55 is part of Mayor Ted Green's greater Workforce Development Initiative to train East Orange residents for not just local job opportunities, but to provide a gateway to union apprenticeships and a pathway to lucrative careers.

“The construction industry is currently experiencing a boom across the nation,” said Mayor Ted R. Green. “Through our partnership with Local 55, we have the unique opportunity to provide our residents with training and skills to secure gainful employment and pursue lucrative careers.”

David Sharp, Coordinator of MOET Employment and Training Programs, said connecting residents with apprenticeships is a key component of his overall strategy to expose individuals to high-growth industries like construction, maritime, and (TLD) transportation, logistics and distribution. In fact, Sharp will be hosting a specialized Career Awareness and Resource Fair next month for all East Orange residents with details to come.

“Union apprenticeships are a game-changer when it comes to building a successful career,” said Sharp. “Getting your book, as they say, is a rite of passage for many of our residents who are seeking higher-paying jobs, job security and opportunities for growth in construction and maintenance careers.”

*On-site parking passes will be provided during sign-up for the event*
