On April 26, 2024 at 11:24 A.M., Secaucus Police Officer Robert Schaffer was patrolling the area of Plaza Drive. While on patrol, he observed Andy Perez operating a 2023 Fly motorcycle-style moped, without a helmet. Furthermore, Andy Perez was operating the moped at high rates of speed and disregarding traffic control devices.

Police Officer Schaffer stopped the moped in the area of Plaza Drive and Paterson Plank Road. During the motor vehicle stop, Andy Perez provided false information pertaining to his identity. The moped was discovered to have been stolen from Union City on April 15, 2024. Andy Perez was subsequently arrested.

At the time of his arrest, Andy Perez was found in possession of sensors commonly used as “anti-shoplifting” devices and merchandise from Marshalls, 400 Millcreek Drive, that was deemed to have been shoplifted just prior to being stopped by Police Officer Schaffer.

“This arrest is another example that proactive policing brings criminals to justice.” Chief Dennis Miller said. “I applaud and am proud of the determination and commitment of Police Officer Schaffer and the entire patrol division who work tirelessly and patrol the streets of Secaucus daily in hopes of curtailing criminal activity, with my full support.”

Andy Perez was charged with Receiving a Stolen Vehicle [2C:20-10.2], Hindering his own Apprehension/Prosecution [2C:39-3b(4)] and Shoplifting [2C:20-11b(1)] along with a slew of motor vehicle summonses. He was released, pending his appearance in Court. These charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
