Receiving Stolen Property Arrest in Harrison

Posted Wed, Apr 17, 2024, From Harrison Police
On April 13, 2024, D/Sgt. Murphy and Det. Lecca observed a man walking on Harrison Avenue carrying a large speaker on his shoulder. The male began to display questionable behavior and acting suspiciously. He was seen walking up towards the 280 Eastbound ramp, which is not accessible to pedestrian traffic. When he observed the police behind him, he immediately attempted to evade officers by hiding under a tunnel near 2nd and Jersey Street. D/Sgt. Murphy and Det. Lecca approached him on foot and questioned him regarding his erratic behavior and ownership of the speaker he was carrying. After providing contradicting stories, it was determined that he entered a parked vehicle in a neighboring jurisdiction (East Newark) and stole the speaker. The man, now identified as Edgardo Serrano-Ingles, 40 of Newark was arrested and transported to police headquarters. A warrant check revealed that he was a Wanted Person out of the Essex County Sheriff’s Office for Burglary. He also had a warrant out of Harrison and Millburn for multiple indictable offenses. East Newark PD was contacted and advised that a vehicle in their jurisdiction may have been burglarized. They were provided with a picture of the speaker, along with the serial number in the event someone reports the speaker missing. He was subsequently photographed, fingerprinted, and charged with receiving stolen property. He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility awaiting a court appearance.
